design parallel with business
Great business = great design
Successful design-driven strategies and communication enable businesses to create products/features that enhance human interactions and experiences.
My Process
-
Developing an understanding of the problem space, considering potential solutions, and learning user needs.
-
Crafting design principles to guide project and experience decisions while ensuring team alignment.
-
Diverging to explore a range of possible solutions. Testing, iterating, discussing, and working through the problem.
-
Refining a chosen direction and visual design, preparing designs for handoff, and documenting decisions.
-
Collaborating with engineering and product to ensure a successful handoff and implementation process.
-
Watching the performance after a project is released to discover ideas and insights for continuous improvement.
01—02
Translate challenges into opportunities
— Design circumstances rather than objects
Create environments for success to thrive, not just artifacts to show you succeeded.
Defining experiences
Clear communication and transparency
With a well-defined strategy and clear communication, any challenge can be identified and overcome.
"Why Not?"
Striving to make an impact
Known for asking, “why can’t we do ‘x’?” I respectfully challenge existing constructs and mental models, identifying slivers of opportunity that become drivers of change.
Teamwork
Forging alliances
My team’s work is one piece of a broader organizational ecosystem. Building relationships with Engineering, Marketing, Product Management, and Customer Support is critical for identifying blind spots and discovering new ways to overcome challenges.
02—02
See infinite possibility
— The quality of your thinking depends on the models in your head
A solution to any challenge becomes more apparent when you can view it through more than one lens.
Legacy
Known for removing boundaries and limits
Work to get the right information in front of the right people, and doors will open. If the lock is stuck, work together to open it. At times, when the key breaks, kick the door down and install a swinging door (it's easier for others to push through).
My design principles
-
A consistent interface follows rules, such as using the same operation to select all objects.
-
Keep context in mind – where’s the member coming from, and where are they going.
-
When the quality of design is high, and the copywriting is clear, we build trust with users.
-
Design for simplicity while supporting functionality, visual language, and brand.
-
Product innovation solves new and existing problems better than they’re currently solved.
-
Optimize the design for the 80% use case–most members most of the time.
